Peace, (I’m Proud of You) Written by John Canales, March 3, 2024.
This song is a work in progress. I guess you can say all my tracks are works in progress. This was my first recording to capture the idea and I kept tweaking it adding a little ear candy and a few different parts.
This is a deeply personal song about surviving. I couldn't help but think about all the fathers and mothers forced to confront war... radically changing their lives- overnight sometimes. The thousands if not dead, separated, or missing. God give them peace. - Especially in Gaza and Ukraine. 🙏🏽
lyrics
"Peace, (I’m Proud of You)"
In your bones, in their teeth, Grinding when you sleep,
The children holding tight, Searching for the light
There’s a memory like a dog, Chased away all the wrong,
That you're holding, So tight, So you can go on…
And find your peace, Like a river, That settles in your soul.
It’s haunting to know, the fire in the cold
Well I’m proud of you, I smile for you,
You’re so damn strong, It’s in your eyes
When all is settled, in the quiet of your mind,
You survived another day, if only you could see
It’s in your bones, when you’re weak, Hoping one day we will meet
It’s the children holding tight, While you guide them through the night
May your peace be fulfilled, When all is standing still,
It’s haunting to know, we may never grow old.
Well I’m proud of you, I smile for you,
You’re so damn strong, It’s in your eyes
When all is settled, in the quiet of your mind,
You survived another day, in the end you’ll be fine, you’ll be fine,
You’ll go on…. You’ll go on…. You’re so damn strong
You’ll go on….
